Conclusion-Final Entry- EcoEnergy project

1. What change are you most proud of accomplishing?
The change that I’m most proud of accomplishing is reusing my Ziploc bag. This project makes me see how important recycling or reusing plastic is. This was my bad habit. I accomplished my goals and in some cases was like so hard to do it but I use that hard time wisely.

2. What kept you from accomplishing more?
Well, in most of the cases I didn’t do this project as a homework I did it because I feel like I need to do the right thing and not being selfish. Because what we’re doing now it will affect our generation. So, that is how I kept looking forward.

3. How did friends and family react to your work on the project?
I told my family about the project. When I told my mom about how much time I spend in the computer for two days, she was so surprised; she didn’t imagine that amount of time. My brother laugh about what I was doing but later he was doing the same. He would tell my sisters to turn off the rooms lights. He made it work too. My friends are from school and they’re doing this project too and I haven’t asked them how they are dealing with it. But I guess they are surprise with the results.

4. Will you keep the changes you made or try to make other changes?
I will like to keep the changes I have chosen to do. Like throwing the plastics, napkins, leftover food in the correspondent place. Helping school, that will be harder, but it can be worth it. Keeping up doing the correct things in my house. And of course, reusing or recycling everything my hands touch.

Journal Entry #3- Changes in my lifestyle (second round)

Air Conditioner
Well, I must say that I like this project and taking care of the planet. I kept my first changes for the last week to this one. In some areas was a little bit harder to accomplish them but I try my best. I enjoy it, even though I look like a crazy turning off the unneeded lights every time.  But the most complicating thing and unavoidable for this week was not having your Air Conditioner on! I mean this week was the hottest one.  So, in the afternoon we turn on the AC for two hours but not all of them just in my mom’s room; at least we try to save energy by not having fans and the AC from others rooms. Well, this doesn’t happen every day but besides having the AC on, I took three showers every day. I try to measure time and not been in the shower or having the faucet open avoiding waste of water. Computer was the primary thing as for the first and this week. I use my computer because I have so many things to do, like investigations, checking my hotmail, editing videos, and the funniest thing is that all are regarding about earth day project; but I’m trying my best by using my time wisely.
House-Bathroom lights

I reused paper again. In my school they tend to send notes so, what I do is when I have to print images and cutting them I use these notes since not all the paper is cover with information and is reusable. Mom is helping by reusing the plastic bottle she bought on Sunday. She fills the bottle with water again. I’m trying to teach my little sister to turn off the bathrooms light, which is her big challenge.  About the unneeded lights in the bathrooms I’m helping school too. When I go to the bathroom in my school I try to turn them off when I go out, because every single time I go they are on.  As I said before I like this project it makes you feel a green person and it was good having this kind of project and sharing with people the important of every sources we use.

Journal Entry #2- Changes in my lifesyle

In my first journal I wrote things I was not doing in the correct way. Now, this was a huge task, changing your lifestyle. First I didn’t know what to do, I mean what type of changes I will be able to accomplish them but I can tell you that I did OK! Let me share you the things I did to help our planet, school and myself. Yesterday, I took my own food to school in some plastic containers (I always use them) and some watermelon in a Ziploc bag. Guess what? I still have my Ziploc bag in home and I still use it. I clean the Ziploc bag and it looks like new. When I finished eating all my food I realized that I did throw nothing to the trash can, so I remember something the less you consume, less trash will be inserted in the trash can. Today I helped my school; I inserted the leftover food and napkins in the corresponding trash can. As I said before I reuse plastic bags, plastic bottles/cups and paper. Yesterday afternoon, I spend my day out in the front yard reading a book and I used the computer just for 45 min. The day was pretty good. All this week, the thing I used the most was colors pencil. I sharpened them all the time. So, I recycle that waste as a fertilizer for my plants. This is not actually something new; my dad taught us, as family that way. I helped my house in turning off the unneeded lights and I hope it continues like that. Doing this kind of challenges is not only in home but in a public place too. Perhaps, some people get to learn from you by how good you are treating our planet.

This is part of my school and you can see the four differents trash cans.

Journal Entry #1- Baseline Data Collection

Our Biology teacher, Mr. José Popoff, is teaching us about Ecology. Nowadays, our planet has been suffering of contaminations, in all areas. Like electricity, garbage, water, ect. So, before of this post you can see that I include some charts and is about this project/challenge that I'm doing in my Biology class. Is about letting me know how bad and good I'm treating my planet.

Well, in my results for these two days, Friday and Saturday, I have done the same things in the morning. I was kind of surprised that I used the computer about 6 and 7 hours a day! The day goes faster than what I thought. Maybe, I took a lot of time in the computer because, since I had liked a year without checking and editing my blog, so I took a time and update everything. This was a miracle I just spend two hours watching T.V.  I do like watching T.V but unfortunately homework was waiting for me. Every day is not the same.  I have a bad habit, since I have memory, I use a lot Ziploc bags and these bags can be easily for recycling but I do the way around, throw them in the trash can. One of the things that is so harder to dispose is plastic. Recycling plastic can be the best way to help our world of getting dirty. I don’t recycle that much maybe just paper and plastic bottles. In the area that I could change to Go Green is recycling plastic.  This is my first time of doing a challenge like this and is really interesting in learning things you can do and the ones that you’re capable of changing for good.
